SUCCESS STORY [ CRP BANGLADESH ]

Md. Rubel Rana

Rubel was having severe fevers only 9 months after his birth, which was found to be “Polio”.  It severely affected his mobility. Both his legs were affected. Earlier, “Traditional Healers” of his village were consulted by his parents, which is the normal scenario of rural Bangladesh. Instead of consulting the appropriate doctors, they go to local healers, who are of very shallow knowledge.

But physical impairment did not stop his life. Despite of being disabled by polio, his mother carried him to school on her back. Later, as he grew up, he went to school on his four limbs. No, he never gave up studies. Eventually he succeeded in passing secondary schools.

In the next journey of his life, he came to CRP where he passed higher secondary schools. He, after having received treatment and vocational training at the CRP and became an occupational therapy assistant. He now makes assistive devices for other handicapped people. His dream is to open his own medical centre sometime in the future.
